Robert M. Sandford, a Lexington artist, earned his BA, MA, and Rank I in Art at Eastern Kentucky University. He has maintained a studio in the Artists’ Attic in Victorian Square since 1996. Robert participates in many local and regional exhibits. He works in oil and watercolor; his primary focus is on plein air urban and rural landscapes.

Sandford's training has included studying with some of the most successful landscape painters in the country, including Scott Christensen, Kenn Backhaus, Dee Beard Dean, Dan Young and Bill Fletcher. Sandford's work can be viewed in his studio at the Artists' Attic and at the Main Cross Gallery in Victorian Square in Lexington, Ky.

"There is so much excitement in painting outside; the sun, the changing conditions and the elements all play a part in the process. I sometimes want people to recognize the actual place, and other times I want the viewer to just respond to the light at a specific time."
